The Neuroaffirmation Station was founded to deliver specialised, trauma informed support to young people and their families.
Belinda specialises in working with children from infancy, utilising evidence-based best practice approaches to support safety and healing.
You do not need a formal diagnosis or a referral to access support from The Neuroaffirmation Station.
Clients who have a mental health care plan from their GP can access 10 rebated sessions per year.
Some private health insurers offer benefits as Belinda is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker; please check your policy provider.
NDIS self and plan-managed clients are welcome.
Play Therapy assists children to cope with and work through their challenging feelings, in ways that are appropriate to their age and stage of development. As children experiences the support of the therapeutic relationship within Play Therapy, they develop new ways of dealing with difficult thoughts, feelings, memories and experiences and begin to transfer these new skills into everyday life.
This approach welcomes and values the creation of a safe space – where stimming, fidgeting and all other personal expressions are welcomed!
Belinda also utilises Family (filial) Play Therpay, whereby parents/guardians/carers are trained by Belinda to undertake play therapy in their home environment.
Belinda’s speciality is in the creative integration of EMDR therapy with play/sandtray/creative therapies.
In this way, Belinda can tailor EMDR therapy to the needs of individual children and their particular goals or negative cognitions.
The EMDR UK association has a lovely explanation of how EMDR can be utilised with young people: EMDR with children video.
Please contact Belinda for further information.
Belinda has over 15 years experience working with teens, and is particularly passionate about supporting the mental health of young people.
Some of the most common concerns raised in sessions, for which you may find this service useful, include:
– experiences of trauma (sexual assault, family violence, PTSD, single-incident, attachment and complex trauma);
– ‘school can’t’ (also known as ‘school refusal’)- wanting to attend school/education but feeling unable to do so due to lack of fit, mental health or other challenges;
– relationships – navigating challenges in social, romantic or family contexts;
– eating disorders – including atypical anorexia, ARFID, body dysmorphia and/or seeking support around challenges to eating/body image/weight in the context of a neurodiverse identity;
– identity – seeking support and understanding around challenges such as ‘fitting in’, feeling unsure in regards to gender/sexuality, wanting to better understand their neurodivergent diagnosis and what this means for ‘who am I?’.
Sessions are completely client led and can be undertaken via telehealth or outreach (in-home, school or an alternate setting) if the young person lives in the south-east/bayside area of Melbourne.
These sessions may incorporate elements of creative therapies (art/play/sandtray) and/or EMDR.
Belinda has extensive experience in working with survivors of sexual assault and family violence, both in the adult and child population.
She utilises expressive modalities – including play and art therapy – as well as traditional talk therapies such as Narrative Therapy, CBT, ACT, Strengths-Based Therapy, Somatic Therapy & EMDR.
Counselling support is available via teleheatlh, or in person in Highett, Melbourne.
Belinda provides training for education professionals, health professionals and community groups and can offer practical, skills-based training based upon the unique needs of each organisation.
